Data Scientist
Claire Benson
Claire Benson, the newest member of the Grassroots Midwest team, joins us after graduating with two bachelor’s degrees from Michigan State University. She majored in Computational Data Science (B.S) and Social Relations and Policy (B.A). She specializes in machine learning, data scraping, and computational modeling. Her favorite part of the work is creating interactive data visualizations.
As a Michigan native, she loves local and state politics. She began her professional career working on Michigan campaigns, notably Governor Whitmer’s 2024 run. Additionally, she has gained experience in renewable energy research at Michigan State University, served as a data analyst for the Michigan Department of Transportation, and worked as a housing specialist in the nonprofit sector.
Outside of Michigan, she previously worked as a data analyst for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). In that role, she was responsible for the quantitative data analytics and statistical analyses for the UNFPA Annual Report. She thoroughly enjoys the intersection of data science and political affairs.
Outside of work, she plays soccer, loves to read, and dreams about adopting a dog from Capital Area.
